Project Description: Making quilts for veterans in the OKC Veterans Administration Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
Background: Veterans entering the Palliative Care Unit are awarded a quilt in a special ceremony. The need is great. If every veteran were to receive a quilt, they would need approximately five (5) quilts a week (approximately 250 per year). On average they receive about 35 quilts every six (6) months.
Challenge: Each guild member to make at least two quilts this year to donate to the Palliative Care Unit.
Great use of stash.
Great way to try new techniques.
Great way to use extra blocks from a block of the month program.
Tag team with a partner(s) to combine efforts to complete multiple quilts.
Quilt Specifications: The recommended size of the quilt is 44" x 66"because it is a convenient size for the hospital bed. The quilts can be any size, color, and/or style. Both men and women are in the unit, and they have a variety of ways of matching a quilt to a veteran.
Finished Quilts: Finished quilts may be given to Vicki Medlin or Tisha Bowen at guild meetings and they will arrange delivery.
