February Meeting Recap

We had a great meeting in February! There were quite a few new visitors and we all got to know each other better through the super-fun Quilt Olympics planned for us by Beth. Who knew there was so much quilty knowledge/physical prowess in our guild?

Our first block lottery of the year was an amazing success!  Almost 300 blocks were brought, which allowed us to draw 4 winners. Thanks to Debbie for spearheading this new, fun project!

We had a lot of fun show and shares, as well!

Sue was inspired by our block lottery choice and after perusing Pinterest, she went ahead and whipped up this awesome mini. How cool!

Leslie finished her president's challenge from last year in shades of periwinkle- very nice color choices!

Regina made this beautiful quilt with her own variation on a pattern she picked up. What a great way to use a beautiful fabric line!

Sarah shared another beautiful improv mini. She is a master of quilt as you go!

New member Eva brought this beautiful piece she made for her daughter. Love it!

Eva made this quilt from her son- her first quilt! She made it from triangle scraps. Awesome scrappiness!

Agnes made this STRIKING economy block quilt out of Amy Butler fabrics. How gorgeous!

And this month the board presented its first ACE leadership pin to Shirlene Davis, in honor of all she does for our guild, including coordinating our Winter Quilt Show presence and serving as past  president.

We had some excited ACE pin recipients this month!

Shirlene received her community and education pins.

Maria knocked it all out by claiming all three- education, community, and art.

Karen and Paula both received art pins.

Way to go, everyone! Let's all work to earn all of our ACE pins!

May Meeting- Show and Share and ACE recipients

April showers bring May quilts! Let's see what our members came up with this month.

Diane brought a beautiful, color inspired quilt just in time for our color theory meeting!

Karen bought an apron kit from Hawthorne Threads to see how their in-house printed fabric washes- we like! They have such great in-house designs.

Mary brought this beautiful, modern piece. Love those colors and the simplicity!

Regina brought some projects she made from the book Sew Organized.  We could all use some extra organization pieces!

Emily used her scraps to make this fantastic Sparkle Punch quilt. What a gorgeous, scrappy piece!

And check out this stunning scrap buster. She assures us that she still has plenty of blue scraps. :)

Karen and Kathy both brought Color Wheel minis that they made. I love how people got excited about our color theory class!

Diane teaches a beginning quilt class at the Mustang Public Library, and this was the first project she led her class in. What a great table runner and first project for budding quilters.

Jennifer made a beautiful Firelights Lane quilt from designer Sassafras Lane.  Beautiful colors!

Debbie, Elizabeth, and Agnes learned to make these great star pillows from Ann in their small group.

Agnes made this awesome charity quilt for Anna's house with donations from Trish!

Elizabeth couldn't resist making a Klee's Trees quilt- love it!

In honor of our color theory meeting, Becca brought this awesome paper pieced flying geese color wheel.

And let's give a (virtual) round of applause to this month's ACE pin recipients!

In January, we were excited to announce that we were beginning an achievement program to encourage our members' involvement and growth in the world of modern quilting, the ACE Program.

At the March meeting, we were very proud to bestow the first round of ACE pin recipients!

From left to right-

Leslie L. received her education pin
Shirlene D. received her art pin
Ann S. received her art and education pins
Elizabeth R. received her art pin

Thank you ladies for making the effort to experience more of the modern quilt making world, sharing it with others, and coming back and telling our group about it! We can't wait to award our next recipients!

New initiative- ACE program!

For those who were at our monthly meeting last night, the board was excited to announce a new initiative to help our members get more involved with our community, each other, and the art of quilt making.

The ACE program gives members a chance to earn three pins throughout the year in recognition of three different aspects of the mission of the OKC Modern Quilt Guild. To earn a pin, simply complete three activities from each category. You can earn pins one at a time- no need to rush!

Here are some sample activities for each category, but there is freedom to come up with your own!

Art (making)-

  • Have Quilt in Guild Show
  • Show & Share Modern Quilt
  • Participate in block exchange or group quilt
  • Participate in Swaps or Challenges

Community (external to guild)-

  • Complete Charity Quilt
  • Participate in Charity Sew Day
  • Make Stockings or other guild charity project
  • Quilts of Valor

Education-

  • Do a Demo – at a meeting or for the blog
  • Do a Presentation
  • Contribute to newsletter
  • Work the booth at the Winter Quilt Show
  • Go to other guilds to sell tickets for the raffle quilt (can also count as Community)
You can also find the info on this downloadable PDF.

Achievement pins will be presented during each meeting after Show & Share – you will be asked to share your completed activities with the guild to encourage others to participate in this endeavor.

Some activities may fall into multiple categories; however, we ask that you only count each activity toward one pin. We won't be tracking your activities; this is an honor system driven program.

The list is intended to serve as examples for each category- feel free to come up with your own tasks!

We are excited to use this program to help our members get more involved with the community and grow in the art of modern quilting!

If you have any questions, please direct them to any board member or to okcmqg at gmail dot com
