Summer...a Challenge, a Quilt Along, a Workshop

Summer and all the busy-ness that comes with it have taken over our lives, but OKCMQG is still alive and well!  We have some fun things happening and in the works right now - here's what's going on with us:

  • Habitat Challenge:  Our mother ship, The Modern Quilt Guild, organized a "challenge" to all chapters and we jumped right in.  The challenge is to create something (as a group or individually) using Jay McCarroll's "Habitat" fabric only...we can add solids if we wish, but that is all.  The fabric is provided at no charge by Free Spirit.  We LOVE this line and are so excited to participate.  We've chosen to make blocks individually for a quilt that will be donated to a local charity of some sort.  We'll post updates here in the future.  By the way, Jay McCarroll was the winner of Project Runway's first season : )
  • Single Girl Quilt Along:  Denyse Schmidt's "Single Girl" quilt is a really fun modern quilt pattern as all of her quilts are.  Several of us are working on the SG quilt together online for fun and support.  We're only just getting started so if you want to quilt along with us go get the pattern (Quiltworks in Casady Square has them) and some pretty fabrics and jump on in!  You can follow along on our FB group if you are a member and on Angela's blog.

  •  Fabric Printing Workshop:  This is in the planning stages and will most likely take place this fall.  We'll be learning techniques for printing fabric along the lines of the awesome Lotta Jansdotter.

Thanks so much for visiting the OKC Mod Quilter's blog!

Our First Quilt Show!

Two weeks ago the OKC Modern Quilt Guild held our first show, and what a great event it was!  The show was hosted by The Venue, a cool little art gallery in The Plaza District near Downtown Oklahoma City.  The highlight of the show was our banner which hung in the front window of the space as you entered the art gallery.

The banner includes blocks made by many members of our group.

The Gallery itself showcased over 25 quilts.

The quilts were absolutely amazing and inspiring! Along with the quilts, we had a few smaller items on display, including items from our swaps.

To see more photos from our show visit Flickr.  Special thanks to Oklahoma Quiltworks, The Venue, and all the wonderful girls who helped make the show possible.  Its amazing to see how far our group has come in just a year!

The OKC Modern Quilters Banner!

The OKC Modern Quilters Banner

This was a group sewing project where everyone designed and stitched a block or two.  It reads: "THE OKC MODERN QUILT GUILD".  We will continue to finish it with a quilt back, free motion quilting, and binding.  It is "sew" beautiful and full of color and character.  Our banner will be displayed at all of our meetings and shows in the future.  Thanks girls!!!!!

Modern Quilt Show

We are super excited about our upcoming quilt show!

OKC Modern Quilt Guild (OKCMQG) was invited to host a gallery exhibit of modern quilts at a local art venue.  We'll have a diverse collection of quilted projects in a modern aesthetic for your viewing pleasure.  Come join us for coffee, baked treats and see what modern quilting is all about.

Here's your invitation...
