OKCMQG Fall Market - November 5

 

The OKC Modern Quilt Guild will host a Fall Market on Saturday, November 5, from 9 am to 4 pm on the grounds of the Overholser Mansion, 405 NW 15th Street in Oklahoma City. 

Come join us to shop from vendor tables featuring handmade items plus sewing, quilting, and craft supplies.

October Meeting - Round Robin Reveals!

 

Please join us for our October meeting, where we will reveal the final quilt tops from our 2022 Round Robin. A total of 18 members participated in this Round Robin, and we're excited to see the quilt reveals!

August Meeting: Quilting Methods Panel

 


 

Join us Monday, August 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Carriage House at Overholser Mansion for a Quilting Methods Panel Discussion! Each of our three panelists will discuss a different method of quilting and answer questions: 

  • Hand quilting - Sue Esparza
  • Domestic machine quilting - Leslie Lamb
  • Longarm quilting - Beth Furnish 

Please bring your favorite pincushion to the meeting for an activity!

June Meeting - Paper Piecing with Legit Kits

 

Join us on June 13 at 6:30 p.m. for guest speaker Mike O'Dell with Legit Kits. Mike will be talking about their simple approach to paper piecing and the history of this OKC-based quilt kit company.

As always, we'll also have Show & Show, door prizes, and lots of fun with quilt friends.

May Meeting - Dyeing with Botanicals

  

Join us for our next meeting on May 9, where we'll learn about dyeing with botanicals from local fiber artist Rachel Denbow.

April Meeting - Unconventional Materials in Quilting

 


Join us on Monday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. for our monthly guild meeting. This meeting will feature a panel discussion on using unconventional materials and alternative textiles in quilting with Trish Maxwell, Lela O'Dell, Chantry Sipress-Banks, Elizabeth Richards, and Agnes Stadler.

We will have Show & Share where members (or guests) share recent finishes, as well as our monthly mini quilt challenge to use a repurposed fabric to make a mini quilt featuring a tree or leaf. We will also be talking about our 2022 Round Robin opportunity and other upcoming opportunities to participate in guild projects.

Workshop description:
Anyone intimidated by fabric selection? We will discuss the basics of color theory and how those concepts lead to better quilts! Students will leave armed with many tools for choosing colors. We will begin with a lecture and trunk show exploring different aspects of color theory in quilts. During the workshop, we will create different color palettes with problem fabrics and inspiration photos. You will have the option of creating either the circle color wheel or the dresden color wheel (see below for examples). Perfect for all level sewists.

March Meeting - Low Volume Fabrics

 


For our March meeting, we're celebrating Pi(e) Day and talking about Low Volume Fabrics! Please join us and bring a friend - guests are always welcome to come check out our guild. 

The meeting will be Monday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carriage House at Overholser Mansion, 405 NW 15th Street in Oklahoma City. If you feel inspired, bring a pie to share plus any recent finishes for the Show & Share portion of our meeting. 

Submissions are also due for our online Thoroughly Modern Mini Quilt Show. Members: see details in the March newsletter.

February Meeting - Member Spotlights

 

Join us on Monday, February 14, at 6:30 p.m. for our February guild meeting. This meeting will feature member spotlights, where a few members will share their quilting journey with us. It's a great opportunity to learn more about some of our guild members and see some beautiful quilts. 

Please bring any donations of men's and women's jeans, men's and women's underwear, or gloves for our outreach project for the Homeless Alliance. Our February meeting is the last chance to donate items.

January Meeting - Local Quilt Shop Showcase

 

 


Please join us for our January meeting, which will feature brief presentations and opportunities to shop with several local quilt shops from the OKC metro area. 

Monday, January 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carriage House at Overholser Mansion (405 NW 15th Street in OKC - plenty of parking on both sides of 15th). 

Bring any items for show & share plus your completed January mini challenge, which is a mini quilt of any size that reflects the theme of transition. Also bring donations of new underwear (for men or women of all sizes) for our charity project for a local homeless outreach program.
