March Meeting Recap

The March meeting gave us a great time of getting to take on each other's unfinished project challenges. In an activity we called WIP 911 (WIP- works in progress), three members brought unfinished projects or blocks that they needed help getting unstuck on.

Sarah brought some blocks she received in a sewing bee, and members had ideas not only for layout, but also for chopping the blocks up and making them more blocks with more continuity.



Stacie brought a quilt she'd finished and sandwiched probably 10 years ago- and still loves!- but can't figure out how to quilt it. We heard several great suggestions including an orange peel design, and also to take into account that the bold fabrics might obscure any overly detailed quilting. Thanks for sharing!



Elizabeth brought in old quilt blocks from a swap that she never really loved. They are all stockings in different sizes, and  our group suggested everything from making a Christmas tree silhouette out of them, to hanging them on a quilted clothesline, to making it into a tree skirt.


It was a fun activity and good to get all of our creative juices flowing!

In some GREAT news, our charity quilt for Quiltcon 2017 has been found! It was lost in the postal system and sadly never made it to Savannah (so sad!), but we are happy it is safe and with us now.





We also had a great bunch of show and shares!

Sue is the queen of awesome minis, and she brought in three great ones this month, all in very different styles. Loving the thread spool mini!








Sarah brought in her quilt journal for February. Love how unique these all come out!



Jennifer made an adorable heart quilt featuring musical fabrics for her musical family!



Diane brought a quilt she finished for a client with great triangle quilting-



And a beautiful almost-finished quilt for her son and future daughter-in-law as a wedding present.



Mandy brought in a great tote that she made with the help of a class from fellow guild member Karen Munger. So stylish and usable!



And Sarah was awarded an ACE pin for Art! Woo hoo!

Group Quilt for QuiltCon

Congratulations to us! The group quilt we made and submitted for the QuiltCon Quilt Show was accepted! We'll see this quilt hanging in Austin, Texas in February! We couldn't be more excited! And I'm not sure I could use any more exclamation marks than I already have!

OKC Block by Angelina Seha

For our quilt, several of us made a block (or two). The brilliance, I think, was in the planning of this quilt. If you ever find yourself in charge of a similar project, here's a great tip:

We were each given the fabric we were to use for our 12" (finished) block. The brilliance came into play when we were NOT given the same exact fabrics. For instance, I only received green, gray, orange and off-white. Others received aqua, charcoal, green and orange...or other variations. This great idea facilitated a scattering of colors and blocks that "coordinate" with out seeming "match-matchy". And I love the use of subtlety by those who received two shades of green!

All those seemingly odd shapes on the back are actually the initials of all the participants using Tula Pink's Modern Alphabet.

HUGE THANKS to Jemellia Hilfiger for sewing the blocks together, piecing the back, quilting it AND putting on the binding; and to all those who participated! And we couldn't forget a BIG THANKS to one of our local quilt shops, Oklahoma Quiltworks, for giving us a discount on the fabric and to Michael Miller Fabrics for providing all our participants with a Michael Miller Cotton Couture Color Card. It's divine.

Our group quilt was accepted by QuiltCon! 

Details of who did what block and how this project was organized coming just as soon as we can pull ourselves back together now that the holidays are over.

July 2012 Meeting

Hi you fabulous quilty people!  :)

I've missed you.  But, my shoulder/arm/wrist is in "physical therapy" of the massage nature.  Jealous?!

Don't be.  The massage is super painful.  Like tears in my eyes painful.  Seriously.  My therapist is really sweet and does some relaxation techniques for me at the end b/c she can tell I'm uncomfortable.  With that said...2 days after the massage I feel AMAZING!  Seriously, AMAZING.  So, for the time being, the stupendous Leslie is going to continue helping me out with our WIP and Finish Friday posts.  BIG thank you to her for that.

Now on to our July meeting.  There was a lot of business to discuss, but it was super fun.  I don't have my agenda in front of me so we'll wing this by highlighting some things.  We talked about future blog ideas and next years show.  Look forward to a Q&A post with our show coordinator for 2012, Crys, and myself regarding how our show worked in late July/August.  

Oh, and a shout out to our new members!  You know who you are!  We are SO excited to see our Guild continuing to grow and thrive!!!!!  So many new super cool peeps.

We discussed our plans for attending QuiltCon...and then we talked about our Michael Miller Quilt that we're making to submit for the QuiltCon Show.  The fabulous LQS Oklahoma Quiltworks talked us up to the Michael Miller people, at Market, and through a little quilty magic the OKC MQG is creating a group quilt to enter in to QuiltCon using all Michael Miller solids.  And, (I wish I had snapped a picture of this) to inspire us all, Michael Miller sent every guild member participating in the quilt a Swatch Card of their fabulous solids.  Be jealous.  Be VERY jealous.  It's an AMAZING card.  The fabrics are soft, luxurious, GREAT to work with (I already have on several occasions myself), and the colors are radiant!!!

So a HUGE thank you to the people over at Michael Miller.  We are most definitely feeling inspired!!!  Stay tuned for pictures of that quilt as it comes together.  I can't wait to see how everyone's blocks turn out!!!

Of course we had our standard show and tell segment as well.

Agnes created this amazing little mini for an Alzheimer's Charity Auction.

Bottom L - R:  Robin (our cutie preggo member) finished the binding on this lovely quilt while at the
 meeting, I shared this little doll quilt I finished up for my daughter, and
Erin made this AMAZING plaid transparency quilt for a customer.
 I seriously plan to have her do an entire post about this quilt as it is stunning.  :)

I hope you all are having a fabulous summer!!!  Now...who else is going to QuiltCon?!  We want to meet ALL of you!!!!!!!!!!  :)
