Meeting Recap: November 2014

November brought elections throughout the country and to the OKCMQG as well. Elections for the 2015 Board were held and after a unanimous vote in the affirmative...we wish to congratulate our new Board!

President - Shirlene D.
Vice President - Karen O.
Secretary - Becky S.
Treasurer - Ann S.
Committees Coordinator - Becca P.
Communications Coordinator - Leslie L.
Programs Director - Elizabeth R.

Additional items voted on and approved were:
  • An increase in annual dues to $40 (still only $30 if you join in January!);
  • Change in the By-Laws to require the Board to have a majority present.

We had an extra special Show & Share quilt this month. Congratulations Shana G. on the pending arrival of your new baby boy! Shana was presented with this adorable quilt that fits with her Dr. Suess theme. Fabric strips were donated by several guild members and the Hospitality Committee oversaw its completion.  A big thank you to them and congratulations to Shana and her husband!

The pattern is Wistful by Villa Rosa Designs.

As part of the night's activities, we were asked to bring our favorite tool or notion. I don't use many tools and gadgets so I really learned a lot. It's amazing how many different types of rulers are out there. One in particular is used for cutting perfect HSTs (Half-Square Triangles) and in no time at all, you can create a quilt top like the one Celeste made!

Elizabeth A. started off Show & Share with this beautiful Road to Oklahoma quilt for her daughter. It's a beauty!

And Elizabeth loves to piece her backs too!

Beth F. shared this cute quilted jacket. And what's that on the inside? A sweatshirt!

Our professional long-arm member, Jana, always has big and beautiful quilts to share. This one was made by her mother and we were told that the family will draw a number to see who gets to take it home. What a fun idea!

Shirlene D. (yep, the new Prez) took a Big Bag Theory class at LQS Threads of Tradition. We all ooh'd and ahh'd over her fabric selection. (It's Mosaica by Windham Fabrics if you're wondering.)

And don't throw out those scraps! Shir made a small zippered pouch as well.

Check out that machine embroidery!

Cathy P. made this darling quilt. I love the mix of square piecing and circular quilting.

In case you missed it, Ellen H. made this wonderful pillow for this year's quilt show.

Ellen also made this cute baby quilt. That would be cute just as it is, but it's actually the back!

The front is even more adorable!

Lest we forget, Chanda has reminded us that Christmas is just around the corner! Look at that yummy "ribbon candy" quilting.

And I'm going to use "yummy" again to describe Chanda's second project. I love those citrusy colors.

Comma, comma, comma....comma-chameleon....(Go ahead. Sing it!) Many of us love this Comma fabric by Zen Chic. Becca P. (our new Committees Coordinator) made this wonderful quilt for her brother. I love the huge grey border. It frames it so well and is bold for a man.

Flip it over and it's Two! Two quilts in one!

Whew! That's our wrap up. Next month we'll have a HUGE Show & Share as we will be participating in our annual Handmade Gift Swap. I can't wait!

Happy Quilting!
